General Rules and Regulations
Regulations are subject to change. Please consult the official DGCA website or Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR) Section 3 for the latest updates.
Rules for Offences and Penalties
The DGCA has established clear rules to address violations related to drone operations, as outlined in Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR) Section 3. Non-compliance can result in penalties depending on the nature of the offence.
Unauthorized Flying
Flying a drone in restricted areas such as airports, defense establishments, or within a 5-kilometer radius of international borders is strictly prohibited due to aviation safety and security risks.
Non-Compliance with No-Fly Zones
Operating drones in designated sensitive areas without authorisation is prohibited and can result in legal consequences.
Operating Drones Above Prescribed Altitude
The DGCA has set a maximum altitude limit of 400 feet (120 meters) for drone operations. Flying above this prescribed altitude is an offence and can lead to penalties.
Unauthorized Recording or Invasion of Privacy
Unauthorized surveillance or recording of individuals or private property without consent is prohibited and can result in legal action.
Non-Compliance with Operator Permit Requirements
Drone operators are required to obtain an operator permit, known as the UAOP (Unmanned Aircraft Operator Permit), from the DGCA for operating drones other than nano and micro categories.
Interference with Emergency Services
Operating drones in a manner that interferes with emergency services, such as police, fire, or medical operations, is strictly prohibited.
Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) Violation
Drones should always be operated within the visual line of sight of the operator. This means the drone must be visible to the operator at all times.
Penalties may include fines, imprisonment, or a combination of both, with severity varying based on the seriousness of the offence.
Green Zone & Red Zone
